Can We Help You? Video for Loyola DMS

Annually, there are massive updates to the online training courses for the Digital Media Services student workers. While planning media to highlight the vast array of equipment available through the department’s Equipment Loan Program, the team of supervisors differed in their ideas for what the video in training should look like.

Alma created storyboards for the three video variations and shot the footage for all of the videos simultaneously. Then she edited the video to each of the storyboard specifications. The video below is meant to promote the use of the equipment loan program because of its equipment selection and the friendliness of the staff. While students are not supposed to remember the entire list of equipment pieces, they should walk away with the impression that we have just about anything they need.

Alma shot the video using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II. She edited the footage using Adobe Premiere CS6 with titles from Adobe After Effects CS6.

Video Competencies Online Courses

October 2012 – May 2013, as Digital Media Specialist at Loyola University Chicago

Alma planned, developed and created a multi-tiered curriculum on Video Production. Using Articulate Studio 8, the short tutorials were made of powerpoints combined with narrative media and multimedia interactions and short assessments. Alma did have the assistance of several part-time staff, one was dedicated to the project for 10 hours per week for three months. A large part of the curriculum development involved teaching those who assisted with the development of the training media.

Snell Wedding videos and DVD

Snell Wedding DVD Cover (Mockup)Alma had never shot video at a wedding before, so to be asked by her two close friends Courtney and Andy not only set a precedent, but it set goals at a very high level. Alma was present for much of their relationship, and she wanted to use this opportunity to show them how much they meant to her.

Alma used the video camera they received as a shower gift, so they could watch the footage and continue adding footage while on their honeymoon. This added an additional need for some speedy transferring of video during the reception, but Alma was able to give them the wonderful surprise of two short (snapshot) videos and a full DVD. Alma designed the DVD case to look like a feature film, complete with a plot, guided by the story of how they met and fell in love.

The Power of Legos

A capstone project for my final Educational Technology course, Computer Uses in Education, this video was supposed to illustrate an integration of technology in education. Alma created a production guide and storyboard, below, as well as a two-column video script, in advance of shooting. The video captures ways that legos can be used to illustrate concepts that may be taught, even in higher education.

Feel free to view the final video here:

Special thanks go to Katelynd, Eric, TJ and Kurt for their participation in the video.

Always Productions Memorial DVD Slideshows

From 2008 to 2009, Alma worked with two local funeral homes to provide a simple photo restoration and display service for memorial services and funerals. Families who elected to use the service submitted photos in whatever form were available. She put them in to a high resolution digital format, restored photos with damage and created looping DVD slideshows. The DVDs were played on a large TV display in the back of the room. When put in to a computer, all images were available for download in their full-sized digital format.

When one of the funeral directors was celebrating a wedding anniversary, Alma coordinated with his children to make a DVD for their surprise party.
