All Good Things: Announcement Video

After Chad and Jeremy decided to compile and release their anthology, Alma designed all of the visuals for the project (more details in the post specifically related to the product’s release). In advance, the following video was released to promote the book and three CD set. The following video was made within After Effects.

As a note, this was a second version of the video as the number of books to be produced was increased to 300 from 100 due to popular demand.

Benefit for Owen Shelly

In summer 2016, Chad Stuart’s stepson Owen had to be hospitalized due to pulmonary hypertension. He was placed on the transplant list to receive a double-lung transplant. That transplant came sixty days after he entered the ICU and he is (at the time of this post) still in the hospital recovering from this massive operation.

A group of musicians organized a benefit concert for Owen to take place on July 31 at McCabes Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, CA. Alma attended the show to provide media support for the show as well as thank the artists and management who were involved. The entire show was streamed to Facebook Live (Part 1 and Part 2) and recorded in high definition video. Alma took photos throughout the show.

The post production for this footage needed to be fast, so Alma used mobile versions of Lightroom and Photoshop to process photos. Alma also created several titles within After Effects ahead of time so videos could be edited and published more quickly. Photos are still being posted to LilMarauder Productions’ Instagram page and one is linked below. Video links are coming soon.

Annual Inventory Process Updates

Based on experimentation during the previous academic year, Alma generated documentation for a new method of inventorying the equipment in the Digital Media Services loan program. By using the category inventory tool within the loan management system, advisors are able to correct errors in equipment names, equipment categories and capture a time-stamped record of the equipment asset tag. The process was faster and generated more actionable data on the over 2,800 items that were inventoried.

Simultaneously, Alma pilot tested the use of the built in help desk ticketing system for broken or missing equipment. This system had not been used to its greatest potential previously, but the DMS permanent staff are eager to use it to streamline the process of assessing equipment, resolving issues and tracking repeated problems.

The combination of all of this additional data will reinforce recommendations for equipment repair or repurchase.

This course counted towards 25 hours of professional development time. During this time Alma created publications in Adobe InDesign, from print projects to online and interactive publications. Best practices for reaching InDesign were also covered as part of this course.

Chad and Jeremy Tour Poster

Chad and Jeremy Tour 2016

In March and April 2016, Alma completed a poster which included all of the dates for the Chad and Jeremy tour. She used skills she had developed from her recent Adobe Education Exchange course on InDesign CC.

In the design, many graphical elements were re-worked. The logotype for the group was made in to a more rectangular shape using Illustrator. Several photos were reviewed and adjusted in Photoshop and elements which were adjusted for this poster are going to be incorporated in upcoming marketing materials.

DaVinci Resolve 12 Color Grading

Alma utilized online tutorials for DaVinci Resolve and taught herself the basics of color grading. The following video was underexposed and shot in the film dynamic range. Alma balanced the colors using the scopes within Resolve, and then added some selective saturation with the curve tools.

This grading allowed fine details of the tea-steeping process to become visible (see the rippling color on the top of the water).
